Dr. Louis Creed moves his family – wife Rachel, daughter Ellie, and young son Gage – to rural Maine, near a pet cemetery (misspelled “Sematary” by children). Behind it lies an ancient Micmac burial ground that can reanimate the dead. When the family cat, Church, is killed, Louis buries it there – and Church returns, but is aggressive and different.

Tragedy strikes again when young Ellie (instead of Gage, as in the 1989 film) is killed. Louis, grief-stricken, buries her in the cursed ground. She returns, but not as the sweet girl he remembers.
