In 2013, Bruno was sentenced to 22 years and 3 months for homicide, concealment of a corpse, and kidnapping. He was stripped of his freedom and his hero status. The most haunting part of the story is the baby.
To hide the evidence, Bruno and his accomplices dismembered Eliza’s body. Her limbs and torso were separated. They fed parts of her body to the family’s Rottweilers to destroy the DNA. After killing Eliza, Bruno did not kill his son. Instead, he forced Eliza’s cousin (who had been duped into helping) to take the then-four-month-old infant and abandon him in a favela. The cousin, however, had a change of heart. She left the baby at a home in the interior of Minas Gerais state.
