It is a ritual of discipline. "Wearing a kimono properly," the instructor tells Fox, "is to wear a perfect posture. You cannot slouch. You cannot run. You must glide." While the episode is largely melancholic, it ends on a fragile note of hope. Fox visits a contemporary designer in Harajuku who is deconstructing the kimono. This designer removes the Obi, replaces the wooden Geta sandals with Doc Martens boots, and pairs the silk haori jacket with ripped denim. In an era of fast fashion and disposable
