The director, Mikael Håfström, specifically designed the lighting to shift from warm amber (the hotel lobby) to sickly fluorescent (the hallway) to oppressive darkness (the room). A 700MB compressed Filmyzilla file crushes the black levels into indistinguishable blocks of pixels. You aren’t watching 1408 ; you are watching a digital photocopy of a ghost.
